In majority of the cases gall stones or gall bladder stones as they are commonly referred as will cause no symptoms. Gall stones are hardened small stone like structures that develop in the gall bladder that is located beneath the liver. This organ is located on the right side of the body. The most common form of treatment until few years back was the surgical removal of gall bladder. This required a patient to stay in the hospital for over a week. However, over the years, laparoscopic or cholecystectomy has become very common. In this a tiny incision is made to remove the gall bladder. The patient is able to resume normal activities within a day. The other forms of treatment include the following –
- Solvent dissolution of gallstones
- Extracting the stones mechanically through catheter
- Shock wave lithotripsy
